The GEM Centre drives high-impact research that advances equity in emergency care across local, national, and global settings. We work alongside clinicians, researchers, educators, and communities to co-design studies that improve clinical care, inform policy, and drive health systems change. Our research is grounded in the realities of emergency departments—where inequities often present most acutely—and targets areas where innovation can have immediate, measurable impact.
Since 2009, we’ve launched over 45 research and education initiatives through anchor programs like the Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration in Emergency Medicine (TAAAC-EM) and the Health Equity Committee. Together with partners, we’ve co-developed and evaluated tailored sepsis protocols in Ethiopia, advanced emergency medicine training across East Africa, and scaled rapid HIV testing and linkage to care in Ontario.
We welcome collaboration with investigators, clinicians, learners, and policy leaders who are committed to equity, implementation science, and improving access to high-quality emergency care. Whether you're exploring a new research question or looking to scale impact across settings, we’re eager to work together.
