Emergency Department Community Advisory Council
The UHN ED Community Advisory Council (CAC) is a space for engaging patients, caregivers, and community members in shaping how emergency care is delivered at Toronto Western and Toronto General Hospitals. Founded on the belief that those with lived experience should have a voice in the systems that serve them, the CAC works in partnership with ED staff and leadership to inform care models, guide quality improvement efforts, and strengthen accountability to the diverse communities we serve.
CAC members contribute their insights to a wide range of initiatives—including wayfinding, patient communication tools, equity-focused research, and strategies to reduce harm and improve safety in the ED. They play a vital role in bridging clinical expertise with community knowledge, ensuring that emergency care at UHN reflects the needs, values, and realities of those most impacted.
We are proud to host one of the first ED-based Community Advisory Councils in Canada, and we continue to build this work in collaboration with peers, social medicine teams, and health equity leaders across the system.
