Simulation

As cohorts of trained emergency medicine physicians in Ethiopia grow, medical education simulations have emerged as an area of interest for collaboration between the TAAAC-EM Partnership. Simulation used in medical education provides its participants with opportunities to deepen their knowledge through the use of critical reflexivity and immersing themselves in unfamiliar situations. The explicit incorporation of critical reflexivity in simulation allows consideration of power dynamics and the validity of forms of knowing as key learning objectives. Simulation provides a supportive environment in which staff and learners can hone their capacities for crisis resource management, situational awareness, and clinical skills.

Ongoing efforts are being made to incorporate simulation education to teaching trips as part of the teaching curriculum, as well as through a University of Toronto Education Development Fund grant entitled Enhancing Global Health Pre-Departure Training using Low Resource, High Capacity (LRHC) Simulation.
