Gairdner Global Health Symposium – Global Preparedness for Pandemics: Lessons from Ebola

October 28, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Growing from his landmark co-discovery of Ebola and a lifetime of global health excellence, 2015 Canada Gairdner Global Health Award Winner Dr. Peter Piot and the Gairdner Foundation have built a one-day symposium on what has been learned and what needs to be done to address future pandemics. Emerging from a century of unprecedented human interaction, the lessons from Ebola, HIV/AIDS and airborne pandemics have ushered in a new understanding of the importance of a larger global health community. By exploring past outbreaks, new treatments and vaccines, and the policies behind implementing safeguards and responses, we prepare ourselves to face future pandemics in a modern world.
